The weird orange pumpkin potato things speak the truth. I wrote. And alas, I finished. Witch Doctors Inc, my YA fantasy duology, is complete.

What’s cool about Procreate is that it can also be used as a photoshopping programme. It’s meant more for digital art, but you can create something like the above by drawing over photos. You can erase parts of photos, or use bits and pieces of different photos to build your own picture.
I started with a free stock photo, then drew hair with the light brush and painted the eyes red with the soft brush. I also gave the model’s complexion a bit of a tan-sparkle, but I don’t remember what brushes I used.
What have you been working on?

I’ve been working on macro photography. Photographing tiny things is an interesting experience. There’s hidden beauty all around us, and sometimes you need a macro lens to find it.
I took my macro lens + new extension tubes for a spin in the garden today. I snapped some dandelion seedheads before they blew away in the wind (and believe me, the wind had its game on today).

Some of the daisies already had all of their petals blown off:

I got some flowers too:

And a waterdrop, though I didn’t get the flower reflections I was hoping for:

When you’re a fantasy writer, you can have any world you want.
I had fun creating this. I quite like the way the bunny turned out too. I’m creating a little magic forest of cute chibi creatures in Procreate. Yes, they will be nauseatingly cutesy. And yes, some will have magic powers.
Nothing is real until the sun. Dark dreams sink into the ocean, spellbound. Stars wheel away. Glass shadows glitch into skyscrapers. A city rebuilds. Reality.
Ever feel like your brain is a scream inside your head
a cage of bones pressing
choking the happy
nauseous hollows swelling like waves made of sand
then darkening into the peace
of never again
It was his heel that did him in. Achilles, I mean. That’s why they keep telling me I have an Achilles heel too. I’m not invincible, blah blah. I’m mortal, just like everyone else. Ha, I want to say. Tell that to the ancient scroll I found buried amongst the ruins of Babylon last week.

Procreate has had a major update, and there are 150 new brushes to choose from! You get to keep your old brushes too, which is good for me because I have some favourites among those. I’ve spotted a few in the new set that I think will grow into favourites soon, and I had fun splashing around with them. The above abstract artwork was made with only brushes in the new set.

I call this one “Unsure”. It’s from an intuitive art session I did last night. Sometimes it’s hard to find the words, or I’m just too tired to conjure them. In moments like that, I let colours do the talking.
