The Messiest Mind in the World

Where can you reduce clutter in your life?

My mind.

Definitely my mind.

There’s so much clutter in there that it’s the biggest thing standing between me and my goals.

Fears stick to corners like cobwebs, bits and pieces of pointless distractions tumble around waiting to trap me in a neverending loop of procrastination, and mementos from every rabbit hole I’ve ever fallen down wink at me like forgotten gems.

It’s no wonder I always take one step forwards, two steps back. I’m constantly wading through the world’s most eclectic rubbish dump.

There is good mind clutter though. Bits and pieces of daydreams, happy memories sparkling away like hand-held fireworks. This clutter is useful, because I can turn it into art.

The artworks in this post are the result of useful mind clutter. I turned my own photography into digital art by painting over and editing in Procreate.

So the good stuff can stay.

As for the bad stuff… I’m going in there with a broom.

The Mission That Never Ends

What is your mission?

My mission is to observe and document this beautiful world of ours through art. I wish I could say that it’s my destiny to be history’s next hero and change the world, but it’s not. There are greater people than me out there for that. No, I’m here to highlight the human experience – the joy, grief, wonder and all the in-betweens that make this society ours.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but I’d go even further than that. I say that a painting or photograph is worth an infinity of meaning. We all see different things when looking at the same picture, remember different moments, and feel a unique cocktail of emotions that cannot be replicated elsewhere. What is this but a reflection of the world we live in?

Even when I’m writing fiction, I’m bringing part of our own world into the light through my characters and plot. My readers choose what they want to take from my stories. There is no right or wrong. They look at the mystery and magic unfolding, and in whichever way they choose, they see us.

Lately I’ve been carrying out my mission through creative photography. The photo at the top of this post (unedited, can you believe) is one of my recent shots.

Below are more of my recent photos (all unedited).

See in them anything your soul desires.
